Yentha readers are our eyes and ears. Send in pictures, stories and facts about the city and we will publish them.
When trees are being cut down without any prior notice, the birds in Trivandrum seem to find it safe to nest on traffic light poles. They can at least stay assured that until the eggs hatch, the poles will not be pulled down. The solar panels on top of the pole, give a proper cover to the nest from sun and rain.
One might imagine that this action of the bird, to build a nest on the traffic pole even when there are still many trees left in the city, is a protest against the authorities for cutting down trees, without keeping promises of planting new ones. Let this sight from Palayam, be an eye-opener not only for the authorities but also for the city dwellers, to not cut down trees unnecessarily and urge them to have more planted.
Let us allow these winged creatures to rest in their natural dwelling spaces. And not confine our concerns for the planet to a single day in the year, called‘World Environment Day’.
