New 'Nambi' At Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple

Edapadi Vasudeva Ram Mohana took charge as the new Pancha Gavyath Nambi of Padmanabha Swami Temple. The time period for the 'nambi' (chief priest) in charge is one year. The selection is made by the other priests in accordance to the criterias and rituals said in the temple books.

The 'nambi's', or the chief priest, are supposed to stay inside the 'nambi-matham' maintained by the Sree Padmanabha Temple during their tenure in office, observing strict celibacy, with their movements restricted to the 'maryaada' of the temple and the 'matham', and to accompany the diety for 'pallivetta' and 'aarat' twice a year.

Many other famed temples like Sabarimala, Guruvayoor, Aranmula, Ettumanoor, Thiruvalla also has got similar norms to be followed by the chief priests of the temple.
