travenThe theme for 2018 WBDD is “Be there for someone else. Give blood. Share life”.

Every year, on 14 June, countries around the world celebrate World Blood Donor Day. The event serves to thank voluntary, unpaid blood donors for their life-saving gifts of blood and to raise awareness of the need for regular blood donations to ensure the quality, safety and availability of blood and blood products for patients in need.

 Focus of this year’s campaign

The theme of this year’s campaign is blood donation as an action of solidarity. It highlights the fundamental human values of altruism, respect, empathy and kindness which underline and sustain voluntary unpaid blood donation systems. We have adopted the slogan, “Be there for someone else. Give blood. Share life”, to draw attention to the roles that voluntary donation systems play in encouraging people to care for one another and generate social ties and a united community.

Our WBDD activities include commemorative events, recognizing repeat regular donors and Institutions, Motivators and NGOs, panel discussion on how to achieve 100 voluntary blood donation involving the Additional Director General from National Blood Transfusion Council Blood Transfusion officers from the leading Blood banks and other stake holders  , meetings with CSR and HR  managers of IT companies in Technopark to promote voluntary blood donation  , publication of relevant stories in Blood Line Journal, and other activities that would help in promoting the theme of this year’s World Blood Donor Day.

As part of World Blood Donor Day celebration, Terumo Penpol Limited is organizing a ‘Thank You Blood Donor Greeting Card Design Contest’ for college students, high school and higher secondary students. The ‘Thank You Blood Donor Greeting Card Design Contest’ is organized by TERUMO PENPOL to thank those who voluntarily donate their blood without any reward, except the knowledge that they have helped save lives, particularly those who give blood on a regular basis two, three or more times a year.

The theme of this year’s campaign is blood donation as an action of solidarity. The campaign aims to highlight stories of people whose lives have been saved through blood donation, as a way of motivating regular blood donors to continue giving blood, and to motivate people in good health who have never given blood to begin doing so, particularly young people. While recognizing the silent and unsung heroes who save lives every day through their blood donations, the theme also strongly encourages more people all over the world to donate blood voluntarily and regularly. Every one of us can become a hero simply by giving blood. The everyday hero responds to an immediate need, whatever the conditions, despite inconvenience, putting the needs of others above their own.

The criterion for the best male donor award of 2018 will be a maximum of four donations in 2017 while that for the best female donor award will be a maximum of three donations in 2017. The Apheresis donors will also be honored.
