Trivandrum: Natpac will submit a report to the PWD in two days regarding shifting the toll gate at NH bypass. The move comes after it was found out that the present position of the toll gate will clash with the entrance of an upcoming shopping mall in
the area.

"We examined the location and found some suitable spots where the toll gate could be shifted to. We will sent a report within two days. However, the final decision regarding the shifting of the toll gate rests with Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MORTH)," said Natpac director B G Sreedevi.

The present toll gate levies toll for the Akkulam bridge and has been a constant source of ire for road users.

Though many suggestions had come up to cease toll collections, nothing was done regarding the issue. With NH bypass set to be widened,  the NH wing of PWD will pass the buck to NHAI.

"Once the bypass is widened, the onus of collecting toll for the entire stretch, including the bridge will be handed over to NHAI who will continue paying MORTH the interest of amount it spent in building Akkulam bridge," said S Smitha, assistant executive engineer, NH bypass section, PWD.

However, the widening works of bypass hasn't reached anywhere. NHAI officials said no decision has been taken yet regarding cutting of trees and the moving of  KWA pipes in road sides is another problem.
