Trivandrum: Kerala speaker P Sreeramakrishnan and CM Pinarayi Vijayan criticized the President and the Governor for not providing assent to many bills that have been passed by the assembly. They said such actions are an infringement into people's aspirations. They were speaking at a seminar organised as part of the diamond jubilee celebrations of the state legislative assembly.

Pinarayi Vijayan quoted the Plachimada Act that is still awaiting the assent of the President. "There are several such legislations that are awaiting the President's assent like the bill passed for setting up the Kerala maritime board. It is very unfortunate that they are neither given assent nor returned," Pinarayi said.
The speaker P Sreeramakrishnan went a step ahead to criticize the judiciary saying that instead of striking down some of the legislations citing that they violate the principles of Constitution, the courts should have helped to rectify them.

Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala said that the judiciary is expected to check whether the legislature is overstepping its limits.
