Fire Breaks Out Near Padmanabhaswamy Temple

Trivandrum :  fire today broke out near the north gate of Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple leading to widespread panic. A godown belonging to the postal department was completely destroyed where as some of the adjacent godowns suffered extensive damage.

 The timely intervention of the fire force prevented a major incident as a petrol station was also located in the vicinity. The fire was stated to have broken out as a result of burning of waste in the area, fire force sources said. The fire was spotted by locals around 3:30 AM who informed the fire force, who arrived quickly and prevented the fire from spreading further. It is suspected that burning of wastes in the surrounding area led to the fire.

State Devaswom Minister Kadakampalli Surendran visited the area and assured that security measures in the area would be strengthened.

The Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple is one of the oldest shrines in the state. The area has seen an increase in the number of fire accidents in the past few months.
