Trivandrum: Kerala Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (KCMMF-Milma) has decided to hike the price of procurement and sale of milk by Rs.4 a litre to help the ailing diary sector. Out of the 4 rupees, 3.35 will go to the farmers, 32 paisa to the cooperatives, and 16 paisa to the selling agents.

The hike was done with the farmers in mind who were suffering due to the increased production cost in recent years. The farmers suffering was made worse with the increase in price of cattle feed and the lack of availability of green grass.

The last time Milma hiked milk prices was in July 2014, when milk prices went up by Rs.3. The price of all variants of milk will also go up. The present hike is not expected to completely solve the farmer’s woes but it will definitely be a step towards helping them.
