Trivandrum: The Kerala Law Academy witnessed tense moments on Tuesday evening as one of the protesters climbed a tree and threatened to commit suicide unless his demands were met. His demands included the arrest of the academy's principal Lekshmi Nair, confiscation of her passport and a discussion on the issue in Wednesday's cabinet meeting. After deputy collector Divya S Iyer’s attempts to persuade him to come down failed, the fire force personnel brought him down safely.

Meanwhile two Congress workers tried to self-immolate which was again foiled by the fire force. Police had to use force to keep situation under control. One of the onlookers collapsed in between and was later declared dead.
CPI state secretary Kanam Rajendran expressed his view that the government ought to take the initiative to settle the strike. The strike was called by the SFI. Former CPI state secretary Pannyan Raveendran is learnt to have met CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan to request his intervention in the ongoing agitation.
