Trivandrum: Thiruvananthapuram Central Railway Station becomes the first station in the country to have ramp and wheelchair facility to help the disabled.

Former Trivandrum division DRM Sunil Bajpai who came to know about a petition by Virali Modi, a disabled woman from Mumbai, for disabled friendly access to trains, brought it to the notice of Southern Railways. This led to the issue of an order procure foldable wheelchair and portable ramps to be put into use from March 1.

Acting upon this directive, the Thiruvananthapuram Central Railway Station has introduced ramp and wheelchair facility for the physically challenged. The wheelchairs were donated by the Lions club. The facility can be used by making a prior request at a cost of Rs 65.
