State Beverage Corporation Outlets

After each major festival in Kerala, the media reports about crores flowing into the exchequer through the sale of alcohol. So why cannot the SBC use some of these earnings to provide a better, open and professional building for the sale of alcohol under one roof (like the Agro Industries Corporation in East Fort) instead of conducting sales in pokey little outlets under the bridge (Pettah for example) which appear sleazy, have urine-smelling surroundings and look more like red light areas which people access in a surreptitious and clandestine manner. It is embarrassing for us to have to direct foreign tourists to such shady places when they wish to buy beer/alcohol. If we are proud of our high consumption, then we should also be proud to display our products and conduct sales in a more dignified fashion.

The basic question remains. Why the heck do you want to drink despite the stinky surroundings of the outlet?

Sylvia, Nice thought.. Even i have been thinking likewise from long time :) The consumers are paying astronomical tax (more than for luxury goods)for this..so why can't the shops be like air conditioned, self-help super markets?? it may cost another 5%. But our dedicated, record breaking, 'Kudiyans' deserve it. What say?
