Trivandrum - 1 kg = 650 gm
Trivandrum - 1 kg = 650 gm Me and my friend last weekend bought apples. I bought 2 kg, one each from different vendors, strangely after the first buy I thought of buying the same apples from another vendor and he charged me 10/- rupees more stating that the first one I bought is not 1 kilo, but 650 gm. I asked him to weigh the apples I bought from the first vendor at the second vendor's weighing machine, which he denied stating that he dint want to get into trouble. I saw this complaint posted in metro manorama too a few weeks back, but why this is still happening. Why are the citizens been cheated like this. Who will put an end to such frauds.

A curious thing happened a few yers back. The then union minister Mr.Bhutta Singh visited our Civil Supplies store and out of sheer curiosuty put a one kg. packet on the scales and it weighed only 950 gms.He could not believe it;could these things happen in the elite keralas capital. So he tried out some other packeted items ,with the same result. The next days Papers made it in 'vendakka'. But to our dismay, the civil supplies staff union guys dismissed it as due to uneven surface on which the scales was placed!. No impact for the metro manorama report since cheating is already born in to our social life.

It happens all the time at Palayam fish market. Be careful. They use magnets, faulty machines and so on. Last time I was there, there was a fisher-woman crying out ...or rather advertising her USP ... a brand new weighing machine/scale ... the rate may not be the same but you are getting the right weight :-) ... absolute chaos ... someone has to put an end to such daylight robbery.
